Chex Quest

DOSFirst-Person Shooter

Chex Quest is a family-friendly first-person shooter developed by Digital Café and published by General Mills for DOS in 1996. It was distributed as a cereal-box promotion and uses a heavily modified version of the Doom engine. The player controls Sergeant Schiesser, a Chex warrior sent to rescue colonists from the slimy Flemoid invasion of the planet Bazoik. The game follows the structure of a compact classic FPS, with five connected levels, weapon pickups, key hunts, secrets, and escalating enemy encounters. Its nonviolent presentation replaces gunfire and blood with “zorching” and teleportation effects. Chex Quest was well received for its polished presentation, accessible design, and unusual promotional concept, and it later gained a notable retro following.
