Crystal Caves

DOSPlatformer

Crystal Caves is a side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Apogee Software for DOS in 1991. The player controls Mylo Steamwitz, an intergalactic businessman searching alien worlds for valuable crystals. Its three episodes combine jumping, shooting, exploration, and environmental hazards in compact single-screen levels linked into larger adventures. The game reflects Apogee’s shareware model, with an initial episode distributed freely and additional episodes sold commercially. Reception generally recognized its colorful EGA graphics, straightforward controls, and exploratory level design, while its hazards and limited defenses could make progress demanding. It remains a representative early DOS platformer.
