Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a primarily menu-driven, top-down world map and port interface. The objective is to establish a profitable shipping business by purchasing vessels, selecting cargo, and transporting goods between ports.
Players choose destinations, monitor expenses and voyage duration, and trade goods whose prices vary by location. Progress comes from accumulating capital and improving the company’s ability to undertake longer or more profitable voyages. The experience is focused on single-player economic planning rather than direct ship-to-ship action.
Plan your run
Begin with conservative cargo choices and short routes so that fuel, maintenance, and travel costs do not overwhelm the trading margin.
Before you begin
Read each port’s market information before loading cargo.
Avoid tying up all available money in one voyage.
Use the map and travel estimates to plan a complete round trip.
1869: History Experience is a historical trading and strategy simulation developed by Max Design for DOS and released in 1992. Set during the age of steamships, it places the player in command of a shipping company operating across the world's major ports. The central premise is to buy and sell cargo, select suitable routes, and build wealth while dealing with travel time, expenses, and changing opportunities. The game combines economic planning with an educational presentation of nineteenth-century geography and commerce. Its deliberate pace and detailed systems appealed to players interested in simulations, although its complexity and text-heavy interface made it less immediately accessible than action-oriented games of the period.
