How it plays
The player controls a faction from an overhead battlefield, constructing a base, harvesting resources, producing units, and attacking enemy installations. Missions generally require destroying opposing forces or key structures while protecting the player's own command center.
Progression comes from expanding the technology tree, adding stronger units and structures, and using cards at appropriate moments. The game focuses on campaign missions and real-time tactical decisions rather than turn-based planning.
Plan your run
Secure nearby resource sites early and protect the routes between them. A compact, defensible base is usually more valuable than spreading production across exposed positions.
Scout before committing expensive units, concentrate fire on isolated targets, and keep a reserve near important structures. Save powerful cards for attacks or defensive emergencies instead of using them as soon as they become available.
Before you begin
Expand only after the first base can support continuous unit production.
Use terrain and chokepoints to slow larger enemy forces.
Keep workers and production buildings away from the edge of the base.
7th Legion is a science-fiction real-time strategy game developed by Vision Software and published by Epic MegaGames for DOS in 1997. It presents a conflict between the technologically advanced 7th Legion and the rebellious Indigenous population of a colonized world. Players gather resources, establish bases, research improvements, and command ground forces in missions viewed from an overhead perspective. The campaign combines conventional combat with a collectible-card system that can provide special battlefield effects. The game was noted for its ambitious setting and fast battles, although contemporary reception was mixed because of uneven artificial intelligence, balance, and presentation.
