Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective and presents a series of missions across prison and island locations. The player explores connected areas, searches for useful items, and fights hostile guards and criminals while trying to complete the current objective.
Movement, positioning, ammunition management, and careful route selection are important. Progress comes from finishing mission goals and reaching later areas rather than from a conventional character-level system. The DOS version is played as a single-player experience.
Plan your run
Search rooms methodically before moving on, because mission-critical items may not be immediately visible. Avoid open approaches when possible, conserve ammunition for dangerous encounters, and use the environment to create distance from groups of enemies.
Learn each area's layout after a failed attempt. Returning to previously checked locations can also help confirm whether an objective or item was missed.
Before you begin
Explore every accessible room before leaving an area.
Conserve ammunition and avoid unnecessary fights.
Use repeated attempts to learn enemy positions and routes.
Alcatraz is a 1992 DOS action game developed by 221B Software Development and published by U.S. Gold. It places the player in a fictionalized version of Alcatraz Island, where an armed criminal operation has taken control of the prison and surrounding facilities. The game combines top-down shooting with exploration and stealth-oriented movement. Its missions emphasize searching rooms, collecting equipment, confronting guards and criminals, and completing objectives under pressure. Alcatraz received limited attention compared with larger contemporary action releases. Reviews commonly noted its distinctive setting and varied mission structure, while also criticizing awkward controls, uneven enemy behavior, and presentation that could feel rough even by early-1990s DOS standards. It remains a niche curiosity for players interested in period computer action games.
