Player marine
The soldier under the player's control in the single-player and cooperative modes. He must fight through the many floors of the alien tower.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective. The main objective is to explore interconnected sections of an alien-infested facility, locate key items and switches, complete the required objectives, and reach the exit while surviving enemy attacks.
Players move through rooms and corridors, fire weapons, collect ammunition and equipment, and deal with doors, terminals, lifts, and other obstacles. Levels emphasize route-finding and backtracking rather than a simple linear stage sequence. Single-player and cooperative two-player modes are available, with progression driven by completing missions and managing limited resources.
Plan your run
Search each room before moving on; ammunition and health are limited, and a missed key item can force a long return trip.
Use doorways and corners to control enemy approaches, keep space from groups of aliens, and avoid spending powerful ammunition on isolated targets. In two-player mode, stay together when possible so one player is not overwhelmed while the other searches.

Editorial context
A tense top-down shooter with substantial exploration and enjoyable cooperative play.
The maze-like layouts and limited resources can feel demanding, especially for first-time players.
Alien Breed: Tower Assault is a top-down science-fiction run-and-gun game developed by Team17 and published by Ocean Software for DOS in 1994. It is the fourth major entry in the Alien Breed line and expands the series' enclosed-base combat with larger, more exploratory levels. Players control a marine investigating an infested installation, searching for access items, managing ammunition, and fighting swarms of aliens at close range. The game combines arcade shooting with maze navigation and light resource management. Its split-screen two-player option made cooperative play a notable feature, while the darker presentation and more complex layouts gave it a stronger exploratory character than earlier entries. Reception generally recognized its intense action and co-op appeal, although the interface and demanding navigation could be frustrating.
