Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses an isometric, mouse-driven perspective. The main objective is to complete scenario goals by establishing a settlement, gathering materials, producing goods, researching improvements, and protecting the population from threats.
Players place buildings, assign or direct workers, manage supplies, and expand through structured missions. Economic development supports military units and defensive structures, while successful objectives unlock further scenarios and a broader range of technologies and construction options.
Plan your run
Start with a stable supply of basic resources before expanding aggressively. Keep production chains close together and leave clear routes between workplaces, storage buildings, and housing.
Protect important production areas and monitor population needs regularly. Expand military capability when a scenario signals external threats, but avoid spending scarce materials on units before the economy can support them.
Before you begin
Secure food and other essential supplies before investing heavily in expansion.
Use compact, organized settlement layouts to reduce travel time and improve production efficiency.
Alien Nations is a real-time strategy and settlement-management game developed by Neo Software Produktions GmbH and published by JoWooD Productions. The game places the player in charge of an alien civilization and combines economic planning, construction, exploration, and military defense. Rather than focusing only on battles, it asks the player to maintain a functioning settlement, balance resources, and guide population growth across a sequence of scenarios. Its colorful presentation and accessible management systems gave it a distinctive identity among late-1990s strategy games. Reception was mixed: reviewers generally appreciated the unusual setting, variety of economic tasks, and approachable play style, while criticism commonly focused on artificial intelligence, pathfinding, and occasional interface limitations.
