Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Players create or import a party of up to six adventurers and explore Riva and nearby wilderness areas from a first-person perspective. Conversations, investigations, travel, and skill checks reveal clues while the party manages equipment, food, fatigue, injuries, and magical resources.
Combat switches to a tactical, turn-based view. Characters can move, attack, defend, cast spells, use items, and exploit weapon skills. Progression is based on experience, attribute and talent improvements, equipment, and the party's success in completing investigations and quests.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party with reliable front-line fighters, useful social and knowledge talents, and access to healing and offensive magic. Save frequently before travel, conversations, and combat, because skill checks and encounters can have lasting consequences.
Keep food, bandages, antidotes, and spare weapons available. Inspect the city carefully, revisit locations after major discoveries, and use the journal and map to track clues rather than treating every encounter as a combat challenge.
Before you begin
Keep several rotating save files before major investigations.
Train complementary talents instead of giving every character the same role.
Monitor fatigue, wounds, food, and equipment condition during longer journeys.
Realms of Arkania: Shadows over Riva is a party-based computer role-playing game developed by Attic Entertainment Software for DOS. Based on The Dark Eye tabletop system, it follows a group of adventurers investigating a conspiracy and a series of strange events in and around the city of Riva. The game combines first-person exploration, turn-based tactical battles, character creation, and extensive skill and attribute checks. Its detailed rules and demanding presentation earned it a strong reputation among computer RPG enthusiasts, although the interface and localization could be challenging for newcomers. It concludes the Nordland Trilogy.
