Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Each battle takes place on a horizontally scrolling battlefield viewed from the side. The main objective is to escort your convoy across the map and destroy the enemy headquarters while preventing the opposing convoy from doing the same.
The helicopter can fly around the battlefield, attack enemy units, and support friendly ground forces. Battles are built around repeated encounters and tactical decisions rather than a conventional adventure map, with victory determined by the survival and advance of the convoy.
Plan your run
Stay near the convoy instead of chasing distant targets. Remove threats that can damage it quickly, especially enemy aircraft and armored vehicles.
Use the terrain and scrolling view to approach dangerous positions carefully. A successful attack is usually more valuable when it opens a path for your ground units than when it merely produces isolated kills.
Before you begin
Protect the convoy first; personal survival is secondary to its progress.
Clear enemy units blocking the route before moving far ahead.
Use the helicopter’s mobility to support vulnerable ground forces.
Armor Alley is a side-scrolling vehicular combat and strategy game developed and published by Three-Sixty Pacific for DOS in 1990. The player pilots a combat helicopter above a battlefield while protecting a convoy of ground vehicles and attempting to destroy the opposing base. Its play style combines direct shooting with battlefield management, since success depends on escorting friendly units, choosing useful reinforcements, and reacting to enemy vehicles and aircraft. The game was notable for bringing a recognizable real-time strategy structure into an arcade-style action frame. It received attention for its unusual hybrid design and competitive two-sided battles, although its presentation and controls were firmly shaped by early DOS hardware.
