How it plays

How does B-17 Flying Fortress play?

Missions are presented from a first-person station view inside the bomber, with the player switching between the pilot, navigator, bombardier, and gun positions. The main objectives are to reach the target, release the bomb load accurately, defend the formation, and return safely.

A campaign links missions together, while crew survival, aircraft damage, fuel, ammunition, and mission results affect continued progress. Players must manage formation flying, navigation, engine problems, flak, and attacking fighters rather than treating the game as a simple arcade shooter.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play B-17 Flying Fortress?

Plan the route and altitude before entering hostile airspace, and monitor fuel and engine condition throughout the mission.

Use the appropriate crew station for each problem. Concentrate defensive fire on attacking fighters, avoid wasting ammunition at long range, and make bombing corrections carefully before release. Returning with the aircraft and crew intact is often more valuable than taking unnecessary risks.
