Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a top-down, character-based screen layout. Each world is divided into connected rooms or screens containing terrain, objects, enemies, doors, items, and messages.
Progress comes from exploring rooms, collecting objects, solving switches or keys-and-doors puzzles, and reaching the objectives of each included world. Action sequences require movement and attacks, while puzzle sections reward careful observation and resource management. The precise scenario structure varies between worlds.
Plan your run
Explore each room methodically and read every sign or message before spending keys, ammunition, or other limited resources. When a route appears blocked, search nearby rooms for switches, keys, or interactable objects rather than relying on brute force.
In combat areas, keep space to maneuver and avoid entering unfamiliar rooms at low health. Because the included worlds can differ in rules and difficulty, learn each area's hazards before committing to a path.
Before you begin
Read in-game signs and messages; they often explain objectives or warn about hazards.
Map unfamiliar rooms mentally and conserve limited resources until the route is clear.
Best of ZZT is a DOS compilation built around the text-mode adventure game system created by Tim Sweeney and published by Epic MegaGames. It presents a selection of ZZT-style worlds that combine exploration, simple action, environmental puzzles, and light role-playing mechanics. The player moves through grid-based screens, interacts with objects, solves obstacles, and survives hazards using the compact keyboard-driven interface. The collection reflects ZZT's distinctive place in early PC game history: its worlds were small in presentation but broad in ambition, and the underlying editor encouraged users to create and share their own scenarios. Best of ZZT is chiefly remembered as a representative showcase of that ecosystem rather than as a conventional standalone narrative game.
