How it plays
The game uses a top-down, mouse-driven perspective. The main objective is generally to develop a base, gather resources, summon an army, and defeat opposing forces or complete a scenario-specific task.
Players select units, issue movement and attack orders, construct buildings, and use magic during real-time battles. Scenarios provide different objectives and gradually introduce more powerful units, spells, and strategic possibilities.
Plan your run
Protect the resource-producing parts of your base before expanding. A steady supply of magic is more useful than summoning a large force that cannot be maintained.
Scout before committing your army, keep durable units in front of vulnerable spellcasters, and use terrain and chokepoints to limit enemy attacks. Save powerful spells for decisive engagements rather than spending them whenever they become available.
Blood & Magic is a fantasy real-time strategy game developed by Tachyon Studios and published by Interplay Productions for DOS in 1996. Players take the role of a spellcaster who gathers magical resources, summons creatures, and directs them against hostile forces. Its play style combines battlefield command with resource management and the construction of a magical base. The game presents a campaign alongside individual scenarios, with progression focused on gaining access to stronger creatures and spells. Contemporary reception was mixed: reviewers recognized its unusual summoning system and atmosphere, while criticizing aspects of its interface, pacing, and artificial intelligence.
