How it plays

How does Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hands play?

The game uses a top-down perspective. Django explores maze-like dungeons, collects equipment, solves environmental puzzles, and searches for the source of each area's undead corruption.

The Gun Del Sol fires sunlight-based shots. The cartridge sensor detects real-world light and can charge the weapon, restore energy, and affect certain dungeon mechanisms. Players can hide from enemies, approach carefully, and manipulate light, mirrors, and other objects.

Each dungeon culminates in a boss battle. Progression comes from finding weapons, lenses, armor, and other equipment, then using those upgrades to reach new areas and defeat stronger Immortals.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Boktai: The Sun Is in Your Hands?

Keep the solar sensor exposed to bright sunlight before and during difficult areas so the Gun Del Sol has sufficient energy. Indoor lamps and other light sources can help, but they are less dependable than direct sun.

Explore each dungeon methodically. Search side rooms for equipment, identify switches and mirrors, and use stealth when ammunition or energy is limited.

Against bosses, learn the attack pattern first, then fire during safe openings. Return to earlier areas when new equipment makes previously inaccessible paths reachable.
