How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective for exploration and a first-person-style battle view during turn-based encounters. Ryu travels across an overworld, enters towns and dungeons, talks with residents, collects equipment, and solves obstacles with party abilities.
Battles require commands such as attacking, casting spells, using items, and defending. Characters gain experience and levels, while new party members provide different skills. Ryu can transform into dragon forms, and the party gradually unlocks tools and abilities needed to reach new areas.
Plan your run
Keep equipment upgraded whenever the party reaches a new town, especially weapons and armor for Ryu and the current frontline members.
Use dragon transformations selectively, since strong forms consume valuable AP. Explore dungeons thoroughly for chests, hidden paths, and items that support later battles.

Breath of Fire is a traditional fantasy role-playing game developed by Capcom and adapted for Game Boy Advance from the Super Famicom and Super NES original. It follows Ryu, the last surviving member of a dragon clan, as he gathers companions and confronts an ancient evil threatening the world. The adventure combines turn-based battles, exploration, town visits, and light environmental puzzles. Its colorful character designs, humorous scenes, and approachable combat earned the game a lasting reputation among 16-bit-style RPGs, while the GBA version made the original adventure portable and added convenience features for handheld play.
