Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views an operational battlefield and issues orders to military units. Objectives vary by scenario, but success generally depends on taking or holding important locations while preserving enough strength to continue the operation.
Campaigns are divided into scenarios or stages rather than a character-led adventure. Movement, deployment, attacks, and defensive positioning form the central decision loop. Progress comes from completing objectives and managing the remaining force effectively; the game rewards preparation more than rapid button presses.
Plan your run
Begin by identifying the scenario objectives and the routes that connect them. Avoid spreading units across the entire map: concentrated forces are more useful for breaking through defended areas and responding to counterattacks.
Use defensive positions and terrain where possible, and preserve damaged formations instead of committing them to every engagement. Because the game is information-heavy, pause to review unit locations and the wider situation before issuing a sequence of orders.
Before you begin
Read the scenario objectives before moving units.
Keep reserves available for threatened objectives.
Concentrate attacks instead of advancing along too many fronts.
Campaign II is a DOS strategy wargame developed and published by Empire Software. It presents historical World War II operations through an operational command perspective rather than a character-driven story. Players direct military formations, manage objectives, and attempt to turn battlefield decisions into a successful campaign. The game emphasizes planning, positioning, and the interaction between movement and combat. Its presentation is utilitarian and information-heavy, reflecting the design of early computer wargames. Reception was mixed: players who wanted a detailed military simulation appreciated its scope, while others found the interface demanding and the rules difficult to learn without careful study.
