How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective. Each mission places a squad on a compact battlefield with objectives such as eliminating enemies, destroying installations, reaching an extraction point, or rescuing personnel.
The player moves soldiers across the terrain, aims their weapons, attacks hostile units, and uses vehicles or explosive objects when available. Survivors continue into later missions, while casualties permanently reduce the available force. Missions are organized into themed campaigns with increasing enemy pressure and more complicated terrain.
Plan your run
Keep squads moving, but avoid sending every soldier into the open at once. Use terrain, buildings, and the edge of the screen to reduce exposure, then concentrate fire on the most dangerous targets first.
Preserve experienced survivors whenever possible. Check the route before advancing, use explosives and vehicles carefully, and do not treat expendable manpower as a substitute for positioning. Retreating briefly is often safer than trying to finish an objective immediately.

The other recurring soldier protagonist, appearing alongside Jools in the series’ campaign framing.
Before you begin
Do not rush across open ground; expose only the soldiers needed for the next attack.
Prioritize enemy weapons and vehicles before weaker infantry.
Treat surviving veterans as valuable because casualties carry over between missions.
Cannon Fodder 2 is a real-time tactics and action game developed by Sensible Software and published by Virgin Interactive for DOS in 1994. It continues the series’ darkly comic portrayal of small soldiers sent through absurdly dangerous combat zones. The player directly guides squads, selects targets, and manages limited manpower rather than controlling a conventional military campaign. Its short missions, cartoon presentation, catchy music, and deliberately irreverent tone give it an unusual identity. Reviews generally praised the accessible controls and humor, while noting that later missions could become demanding and unforgiving. The game is best understood as a fast, compact tactical shooter with light resource management.
