Max Damage
The primary driver and player character, portrayed as an aggressive and irreverent demolition racer.
How it plays
Races are viewed from behind the player’s vehicle. Each event usually provides several possible routes and multiple ways to finish: complete the required laps, eliminate opponents, or run down the allotted pedestrian targets.
The player steers through urban, rural, and industrial spaces while collecting power-ups, using ramps and shortcuts, avoiding hazards, and managing vehicle damage. Winning events unlocks additional races and improves access to vehicles and upgrades. Opponent cars can be attacked directly or forced into environmental dangers.
Plan your run
Learn each course before chasing opponents. Completing laps is often safer than pursuing destruction, especially when the player’s vehicle is badly damaged.
Use ramps, narrow passages, traffic, and fixed hazards to attack heavier opponents. Collect power-ups when the route is safe, and preserve vehicle strength for the final section of long events.

A recurring rival driver associated with the game's adversarial racing events.
Before you begin
Check the map and explore alternate routes; many events reward shortcuts more than top speed.
Watch the damage meter and avoid unnecessary collisions when close to completing an event.
Use environmental hazards to damage opponents instead of repeatedly ramming stronger vehicles.
Carmageddon is a vehicular-combat racing game developed by Stainless Software and released for DOS in 1997. Instead of requiring a conventional finish-line victory, it lets the player win by completing laps, destroying rival vehicles, or causing enough mayhem to satisfy the event’s objectives. Races take place in open environments with traffic, pedestrians, shortcuts, jumps, and destructible scenery. The game is presented with an irreverent, darkly comic tone and supports single-player events as well as multiplayer competition. Its exaggerated violence and free-form driving made it controversial, while its damage model and unconventional race design earned it a distinctive place among late-1990s PC action-racing games.
