Lifthransir
The title antagonist and the central threat that drives the second adventure.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down tile-based perspective. The objective is to explore the world, investigate dungeons, complete the main adventure, and obtain stronger equipment for increasingly dangerous encounters.
Movement and combat are handled one step or action at a time, allowing the player to choose attacks, manage distance, use items, and respond to hostile creatures. The character’s progress depends on experience, weapons, armor, magical objects, consumables, and careful decisions about what to carry.
The adventure is structured around connected outdoor and indoor areas, with exploration gradually revealing new routes and challenges. Saving, resting, and inventory management are important parts of long expeditions.

Before you begin
Conserve consumables during routine exploration so they are available for difficult areas.
Check equipment and inventory frequently; encumbrance and item choice strongly affect long expeditions.
Castle of the Winds II: Lifthransir’s Bane is a fantasy role-playing game developed by Rick Saada. It presents a top-down, tile-based adventure in which the player explores dangerous wilderness areas, dungeons, and fortified locations while preparing for a confrontation with the title threat, Lifthransir. The game emphasizes methodical exploration, inventory management, equipment upgrades, and turn-based combat rather than reflexes. It continues the design of the first Castle of the Winds while expanding the adventure with a larger world and a stronger endgame focus. The game became known among classic computer-RPG players for its accessible interface, detailed item system, and distinctive Norse-influenced setting, although its dated presentation and limited audiovisual style can feel austere today.
