Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a side-view action perspective. The objective is to guide Chaplin through hazardous scenes, pass obstacles, and reach the end of each section while preserving his limited chances.
Progression is level-based. Success depends on careful movement and timing around environmental hazards and enemies; the available DOS version does not provide a documented set of role-playing upgrades or a complex inventory system.
Plan your run
Watch the movement pattern of each hazard before committing to a jump or narrow passage. Chaplin's comic animation can make timing feel less immediate than in a conventional action game, so short, deliberate movements are safer than rushing.
Treat each section as a route-learning exercise. After a failed attempt, remember the positions of hazards and adjust the timing of the next traversal rather than repeating the same approach.
Before you begin
Learn hazard timing before attempting fast progress.
Use cautious, short movements near platforms and obstacles.
Charlie Chaplin is a 1988 DOS action-platform game published by Ocean Software and based on the screen persona of the silent-film comedian. The player controls Chaplin through a sequence of obstacle-filled scenes inspired by his familiar physical-comedy performances. Its play style centers on movement, timing, jumping, and avoiding hazards rather than on complex role-playing systems or competitive scoring. The game belongs to the period when film licenses were commonly adapted into compact home-computer adventures. Reception was mixed, with the recognizable character providing much of its appeal while the straightforward mechanics and presentation reflected the technical limits of contemporary DOS games.
