How it plays

How does Comanche: Maximum Overkill play?

The game is viewed from the cockpit of the Comanche helicopter. Missions take place over large outdoor environments and assign objectives such as reaching an area, scouting, destroying ground targets, or engaging hostile aircraft.

Players fly at low or high altitude, use the terrain for cover, select weapons, and attack targets with the helicopter's available armament. Mission success advances the campaign, while damage, ammunition, navigation, and enemy defenses can determine whether an objective is completed. The DOS release is centered on single-player mission play and simulation-style flight rather than character-driven storytelling.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Comanche: Maximum Overkill?

Use hills and valleys to mask the helicopter from hostile fire, especially when approaching defended objectives. Avoid staying exposed while attacking; make short attack runs, break away, and reposition before returning.

Plan the route before entering heavily defended areas, conserve ammunition for mission-critical targets, and use reconnaissance to identify threats rather than rushing directly toward the objective. Low-level flight improves concealment but requires careful attention to terrain and altitude.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use terrain as cover instead of approaching targets across open ground.

  2. 2

Break off after an attack run and re-approach from a different direction.

  3. 3

Keep track of mission objectives and ammunition before engaging optional threats.
