How it plays
The game uses a top-down, mouse-driven battlefield view. Players harvest ore and gems with a refinery, place buildings within their base, train infantry, produce vehicles, and defend or attack strategic objectives.
The Allied and Soviet campaigns contain branching missions and different technologies. Objectives include destroying enemy bases, protecting units, capturing structures, and reaching extraction points. Skirmishes and multiplayer matches focus on base construction, resource control, scouting, and combined-arms attacks.
Plan your run
Secure an ore field early and place refineries close enough to reduce harvester travel time. Expand carefully: additional refineries and harvesters improve income, but exposed expansions are difficult to defend.
Scout before committing to an attack. Use tanks with infantry support, keep anti-air units near important groups, and repair or replace damaged vehicles instead of repeatedly sacrificing them. In campaign missions, prioritize the stated objective rather than attempting to eliminate every enemy unit.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert is a real-time strategy game developed by Westwood Studios and released for DOS in 1996. It presents an alternate-history conflict between the Allied nations and the Soviet Union after Albert Einstein removes Adolf Hitler from the timeline. Players gather resources, construct bases, research and deploy military units, and complete objectives across two campaign paths. The game combines a cinematic single-player campaign with skirmish and multiplayer battles. Its accessible interface, distinct factions, live-action briefing videos, and fast tactical pacing earned strong historical reception and helped establish Red Alert as one of the most influential DOS strategy games.
