Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Players explore a large map, establish settlements, gather resources, and develop colonies into productive towns. Each turn involves managing population, assigning workers, choosing construction projects, trading with other factions, and responding to diplomatic events.
Multiple European nations compete for territory and influence. Armies can fight rival colonists and indigenous forces in separate tactical encounters, while exploration reveals new land and resources. Progress depends on balancing expansion, economic growth, military readiness, and relations with other powers.
Plan your run
Start with a defensible settlement near useful resources and avoid expanding faster than your economy can support. Develop food and production early so that new colonies do not remain dependent on the capital.
Use exploration to identify valuable land before committing large armies. Maintain diplomatic options where possible, but keep enough military strength to protect trade routes and isolated settlements. Specialize colonies rather than building every facility everywhere.
Before you begin
Pause expansion when a colony is consuming more resources than it produces.
Scout unexplored territory before sending settlers or troops.
Keep military units supplied and avoid fighting on several fronts at once.
Conquest of the New World: Deluxe Edition is a turn-based 4X strategy game developed by Quicksilver Software and published by Interplay Productions for DOS. Players guide one of several European powers through exploration, colonization, diplomacy, trade, and warfare in a fictionalized version of the Americas. The game combines an empire-management layer with tactical battles and settlement development. Its detailed economic and political systems give it a slower, more deliberate pace than many contemporary strategy games. The Deluxe Edition was well regarded for expanding the original release with additional content and refinements, although its complexity and interface can make the opening difficult for new players.
