Dangerous Dave
The playable adventurer who crosses dangerous stages to rescue his brother.
How it plays
The player views Dave from the side and guides him through a sequence of platforming stages. The main objective is to reach the end of each stage while surviving hazards, defeating or avoiding enemies, and collecting useful items.
Movement depends on careful jumps and positioning. Dave can explore platforms, enter dangerous areas, and use weapons when available. Progress is stage-based rather than experience-based; success comes from learning enemy patterns, locating safe routes, and managing limited opportunities to recover from mistakes.
Plan your run
Treat each screen as a route-finding puzzle rather than rushing forward. Check platform heights and enemy positions before committing to a jump.
Conserve weapon ammunition when possible, use safe ledges to reset your position, and revisit areas to collect items only when the route is secure. Memorizing hazards is especially useful because repeated attempts are often required.

Dangerous Dave's Risky Rescue is a DOS platform game developed by id Software and published by Softdisk in 1993. It follows Dangerous Dave as he ventures through a hazardous environment to rescue his brother, Delbert. The game combines side-scrolling exploration with jumping, enemy avoidance, weapon use, and collectible hunting. Its compact level-based structure reflects the shareware and disk-game design common on early-1990s home computers. The game is historically notable as an early id Software production and as a precursor to the studio's more influential action games. Reception has generally focused on its straightforward challenge, simple presentation, and importance as a snapshot of id Software before Wolfenstein 3D and Doom.
