Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a top-down, real-time battlefield view. Players construct and defend a base, harvest resources, produce units, and attack or hold strategic positions while an opposing force acts continuously.
Missions are organized around faction campaigns and scenario objectives. Progress depends on expanding the settlement, researching available technologies, selecting suitable unit types, and preserving enough forces to complete later operations. Combat is handled in real time rather than through turns.
Plan your run
Secure nearby resource sites before committing to a large attack, then protect the routes between those sites and the main base. Early defensive structures can buy time while the economy develops.
Scout the map before advancing, keep mixed groups of units together, and use terrain and chokepoints to limit enemy movement. Research and production should support the immediate mission objective rather than delay the army with unnecessary upgrades.
Dark Colony: The Council Wars is a science-fiction real-time strategy game developed by Strategic Simulations, Inc. and published by Take-Two Interactive for DOS. It presents a conflict on Mars between human forces and the hostile alien insectoid species known as the Grey. Players establish bases, gather resources, research technology, and command combat units in missions built around territorial control and faction warfare. The game follows the real-time strategy conventions of its period, with direct mouse-driven unit control and a campaign structure organized around opposing sides. Its dark science-fiction setting and atmospheric presentation were distinctive, although contemporary reception was mixed, with criticism commonly directed at interface and balance issues. It is chiefly of interest to players studying late-1990s DOS strategy games.
