Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses an overhead, mouse-driven real-time strategy perspective. The main objective is usually to destroy the opposing force, protect an important unit or structure, or complete a specified mission objective.
Players establish bases, harvest resources, construct buildings, train and upgrade units, and explore the battlefield. Campaign missions introduce new technologies and scenarios, while skirmish and multiplayer play focus on map control, scouting, economy, and tactical attacks. Terrain and unit positioning can affect the outcome of battles.
Plan your run
Scout before committing to an attack, because concealed terrain and enemy defenses can punish unprepared assaults.
Protect resource operations and production buildings, use mixed forces instead of a single unit type, and exploit chokepoints or elevated terrain when the map allows it. Keep mobile units available for reconnaissance and defense rather than spending every unit in one offensive group.
Before you begin
Secure resource sites early, but do not overextend your defenses.
Combine reconnaissance with artillery or long-range units when available.
Save before major attacks so failed battlefield experiments can be retried.
Dark Reign: The Future of War is a science-fiction real-time strategy game developed by Auran and published by Activision. It presents a conflict between the technologically advanced Imperium and the freedom-fighting Sprawlers, with each side using different military strengths and strategic options. Players build bases, gather resources, research technologies, and command units across campaign and multiplayer scenarios. The game is notable for emphasizing terrain, reconnaissance, unit formations, and defensive planning rather than relying only on production speed. Its detailed interface and tactical systems earned it a strong reputation among late-1990s PC strategy games, although the supplied DOS platform release cannot be independently verified.
