How it plays

How does Decisive Battles of the American Civil War, Vol. 3 play?

The game uses a top-down map and turn-based play. Players move military units across terrain, issue combat orders, and try to capture objectives or defeat opposing forces according to each scenario’s conditions.

Scenarios provide the main structure, with historical forces and starting positions shaping the available options. Successful play depends on concentration of force, terrain awareness, supply and formation management where modeled, and careful timing. The opposing side is controlled by the computer or by another player, depending on the selected mode.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Decisive Battles of the American Civil War, Vol. 3?

Study the scenario objectives before moving. Preserve formations, avoid isolated units, and use terrain to limit the enemy’s ability to concentrate attacks.

Reconnaissance and patience are important: forcing an attack before supporting units arrive can turn a local advantage into a costly defeat. Keep reserves available for breakthroughs, threatened objectives, and sudden changes in the front.
