How it plays
Each level presents a diggable underground maze containing emeralds, gold bags, and enemies. Digger tunnels through the soil, collects treasure, and uses emerald shots or falling objects to clear threats.
The objective is to gather the required valuables and survive the pursuing monsters. Progression becomes harder as enemies move more aggressively and safe routes become less forgiving.
Plan your run
Plan an escape route before opening long passages. Keeping some soil intact can slow enemies and preserve a safe retreat.
Use gold bags and narrow corridors strategically. Lure monsters beneath unstable bags, then move away before the bag falls; save emerald shots for situations where escape is difficult.
Meet the cast
The player-controlled excavator who digs tunnels, collects treasure, and fires emeralds.
The principal pursuing monsters. They chase Digger through the tunnels and can be defeated by well-timed attacks or falling objects.
Before you begin
Avoid digging aimlessly: a connected tunnel can give monsters a direct route to Digger.
Collecting treasure quickly is useful, but survival and an escape path matter more than a risky pickup.
Digger is an arcade action and maze game developed and published by Windmill Software for DOS in 1983. The player controls a small excavator digging through underground earth, collecting emeralds and gold while avoiding increasingly dangerous monsters. Its play style combines route planning, quick movement, and timing-based attacks in compact single-screen levels. The game is notably associated with early IBM PC gaming and was well regarded for bringing colorful, responsive arcade mechanics to home computers, despite its simple presentation.
