How it plays

How does Street Fighter II: The World Warrior play?

Matches take place on a single-screen 2D stage from a side view. Two fighters exchange punches, kicks, jumping attacks, throws, and special techniques until one has no health remaining. A round timer and best-of-three-round structure determine the winner.

In single-player mode, the selected fighter travels through a fixed sequence of opponents, with occasional bonus stages between fights. Defeating the eight world warriors leads to the four non-selectable boss characters. Versus mode allows two players to fight directly, subject to the DOS version's input setup.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Street Fighter II: The World Warrior?

Learn the normal attacks and special-move inputs for one fighter before trying to use the entire roster. Ryu and Ken are straightforward choices for learning projectile and anti-air spacing, while Chun-Li and Guile reward careful control of distance.

Block attacks, punish unsafe jumps and special moves, and watch the timer when you have a life advantage. In arcade progression, save strong attacks for clear openings and avoid repeatedly jumping at opponents with reliable anti-air moves.
