How it plays

How does Dr. Mario & Puzzle League play?

Dr. Mario presents a bottle-like playfield in which capsules fall from above. The objective is to create lines of four matching colors, combining capsules with viruses until every virus is removed. Players can move and rotate capsules, manage the stack, and use chain reactions to clear difficult positions.

Puzzle League uses a grid of colored panels. The player swaps neighboring panels to form horizontal or vertical groups, clears the resulting matches, and builds chains as new panels fall into place. Progression comes through higher speeds, larger challenges, score targets, and versus-oriented play rather than character-based exploration.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Dr. Mario & Puzzle League?

In Dr. Mario, avoid building an uneven stack without a plan. Clear viruses from the bottom upward when possible, preserve matching capsule halves for future placements, and use controlled chain reactions instead of making isolated clears.

In Puzzle League, look for matches that will create space and delay unnecessary moves. Set up falling panels above an intended match, watch the whole grid after each swap, and practice recognizing chain opportunities before increasing the speed level.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Use the slower settings to learn capsule rotation and panel timing before attempting high-speed play.

  2. 2

In both games, clearing space near the bottom of the playfield usually gives more time to recover.

  3. 3

For versus play, prioritize chains and garbage pressure rather than only making the quickest single match.
