How it plays
The game is viewed from the side. Jill moves through self-contained stages, drills through blocks and enemies, collects items, and reaches a boss or stage goal. The drill can operate in opposite directions and shift through multiple gears, making it useful for both combat and environmental puzzles.
Progression comes from clearing stages, finding upgrades, and opening new paths with improved drill capabilities. The Red Dozer also has a health meter, and optional collectibles encourage careful exploration. A rumble-enabled cartridge was bundled with the North American release.
Plan your run
Use the drill deliberately rather than holding it constantly. Different directions and gears are useful for different blocks, enemies, and mechanisms.
Explore side passages before finishing a room. Extra health and collectible items make later stages and bosses more manageable, while observing a boss before attacking usually reveals a safe opening.

Drill Dozer is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Game Freak for the Game Boy Advance. The player controls Jill, the daughter of a construction-company owner, as she pilots the heavily armored Red Dozer to recover a stolen red diamond and confront the Skull Gang. Its central gimmick is a powerful drill that can break terrain, attack enemies, activate machinery, and alter the route through each stage. Stages combine platforming, exploration, hazards, and large mechanical bosses. The game was praised for its inventive controls, polished presentation, and satisfying level design, although its short length was a common criticism.
