How it plays
The game is viewed from a first-person perspective. Duke moves through interconnected tropical levels, searches for keys and switches, fights alien enemies, rescues captives, and reaches the exit. Levels include beaches, hotels, ships, and other locations built around exploration and environmental interaction.
Players can use firearms, explosives, the jetpack, steroids, night vision, and other equipment. Secrets, destructible objects, alternate routes, and hidden supplies reward careful searching. Life's a Beach follows the base game's single-player structure and does not add a separate campaign progression system beyond completing its episode levels.
Plan your run
Search every room and shoreline for switches, hidden doors, destructible scenery, and supplies. The tropical art can make useful objects easy to overlook, so check unusual walls and dead ends.
Conserve powerful ammunition for larger threats, use cover around open beach areas, and activate equipment such as the jetpack only when it provides a clear route or tactical advantage. Save before exploring secret areas or committing to one-way paths.

Keep multiple save files before using vehicles or entering unfamiliar areas.
Use the jetpack and other equipment carefully, since some areas require them for navigation.
Duke Nukem 3D: Caribbean — Life's a Beach is a first-person shooter expansion developed by Sunstorm Interactive and published by WizardWorks for DOS in 1997. It places Duke Nukem in a deliberately exaggerated Caribbean setting, replacing the original game's urban and science-fiction imagery with beaches, resorts, cruise ships, and other tropical locations. The core play style remains fast, exploration-focused shooting with interactive scenery, hidden areas, weapons, and crude comedy. As an add-on rather than a standalone technological sequel, it uses the Build engine and familiar Duke Nukem 3D mechanics while presenting new levels and themed art. Reception was generally mixed: players appreciated the novelty and level design, but some criticized the smaller scope and reliance on the established expansion formula.
