How it plays
The player views the action from a first-person perspective and guides Duke through a linear sequence of Washington-themed levels. Objectives include finding access routes, activating switches, collecting keycards, surviving ambushes, and reaching the exit.
Duke can run, strafe, jump, swim, use environmental objects, and fight with firearms and explosive weapons. Secrets, health items, armor, ammunition, and temporary power-ups reward exploration. The DOS release is primarily a single-player expansion campaign; its level progression and combat follow Duke Nukem 3D conventions.
Plan your run
Search rooms and side passages before leaving an area; keycards and switches are often placed away from the main route.
Conserve explosive ammunition in confined spaces, use cover against hitscan enemies, and check interactive scenery for hidden supplies. Save before major set-piece encounters and before entering unfamiliar teleporters.

The expansion assumes familiarity with Duke Nukem 3D’s movement and interaction conventions.
Duke Nukem 3D: Duke It Out in D.C. is a first-person shooter expansion developed by Sunstorm Interactive and published by WizardWorks for DOS in 1997. It uses the Build engine and places Duke Nukem in a fictionalized Washington, D.C., where alien forces have kidnapped the president and occupied recognizable locations. The expansion retains Duke 3D’s dark humor, interactive environments, weapon variety, and fast run-and-gun play. Its campaign is built from new levels rather than a separate full game engine. Reception generally recognized the pack for its substantial amount of new content and entertaining setting, while noting that it relies heavily on the established Duke Nukem 3D formula.
