How it plays

How does Dungeon Keeper play?

The action is viewed from an overhead, isometric-style perspective. Players dig through claimed earth, place rooms and traps, and manage resources such as gold and creature availability. A Dungeon Heart serves as the fortress’s central objective; its destruction ends the mission.

Campaign stages provide varied objectives, including defeating heroes, destroying rival keepers, and protecting important rooms. Creatures require wages, food, training, and suitable rooms. The Keeper can slap creatures, possess them, cast spells, and use traps to control battles and dungeon operations.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Dungeon Keeper?

Expand carefully rather than opening every tunnel at once. Secure gold seams, claim enough territory for rooms, and keep the Dungeon Heart away from exposed entrances.

Train creatures regularly and match room types to their needs. Use doors, traps, and guard posts to shape enemy movement, then possess a suitable creature when direct combat or exploration requires precise control.

Watch wages, food, and creature happiness. A large army is not automatically effective if it is unpaid, poorly trained, or housed in unsuitable rooms.
