How it plays

How does Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder play?

The game uses a first-person view with grid-based movement through a large dungeon. The party explores rooms and corridors, searches for keys and hidden mechanisms, solves environmental puzzles, and battles monsters encountered along the route.

Combat takes place directly on the dungeon map. Melee characters attack at close range while spellcasters select memorized spells and manage limited resources. Progression comes from exploration, equipment upgrades, character development, and discovering the route deeper into the complex.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Dungeons & Dragons: Eye of the Beholder?

Search every accessible wall and floor space for switches, secret doors, keys, and useful items. Keep the front line supplied with suitable weapons and armor, and reserve healing and offensive spells for encounters where retreat is difficult.

Save frequently before opening suspicious doors or entering unfamiliar rooms. When a puzzle blocks progress, recheck nearby corridors and containers rather than assuming a required item is elsewhere.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Map explored areas carefully; several routes depend on switches or keys found earlier.

  2. 2

Use ranged attacks and spells before allowing dangerous enemies to reach the front line.

  3. 3

Rest or conserve spell charges whenever the route ahead is uncertain.
