Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player explores a post-apocalyptic world from a top-down perspective, entering ruined locations and wilderness areas while searching for useful equipment, clues, and routes forward. Encounters, environmental hazards, and resource management are central to progress.
Progression involves improving the protagonist’s abilities and equipment while completing objectives in an open-ended sequence of locations. Exploration and careful inventory use are generally more important than reflex-based play.
Plan your run
Explore each accessible area methodically and keep track of routes, objects, and blocked passages. Items found in one location may be useful later, so avoid discarding unfamiliar equipment without testing its purpose.
Conserve supplies before entering dangerous areas, and use character improvements to compensate for the situations you encounter most often. Saving regularly is prudent because exploration and combat can both create costly setbacks.
Before you begin
Search ruined areas carefully; useful progress items may not be placed on the main route.
Keep notes about unexplored doors, paths, and objects.
Save before entering unfamiliar or hazardous locations.
Earthrise is a 1990 DOS role-playing adventure developed by The Dreamers Guild and published by Interplay Productions. Set on a damaged future Earth, it follows a lone explorer searching through the remains of a technologically advanced civilization. The game combines character development, exploration, inventory management, and encounters with hostile creatures and other survivors rather than focusing on fast action. Its interface and presentation reflect early computer RPG design, with text-heavy information and deliberate movement through hazardous environments. Earthrise received limited attention compared with Interplay’s better-known releases, but it remains a notable example of an ambitious, atmospheric science-fiction RPG from the early DOS era.
