How it plays

How does Earthworm Jim play?

Players guide Jim through side-scrolling stages filled with platforms, enemies, pits, moving hazards, and environmental puzzles. Jim can run, jump, fire his weapon, and use his head as a whip. Some stages replace ordinary platforming with vehicle sections or other specialized challenges.

The main objective is to reach the end of each level and defeat its boss or complete its set-piece challenge. Progression is level-based, and Jim’s health, ammunition, and temporary power-ups affect how safely each stage can be approached.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Earthworm Jim?

Learn the timing of Jim’s whip and blaster rather than attacking every enemy at close range. Keep moving through hazards, and use platforms to create safe firing positions.

Treat vehicle and boss sections as separate challenges: observe their attack patterns first, then attack during safe openings. Explore cautiously for power-ups, but avoid risky detours when Jim’s health is already low.
