Earthworm Jim
The heroic earthworm protagonist, protected by a powerful robotic suit and armed with a blaster and whip.
How it plays
The game is viewed primarily from the side. Jim runs, jumps, shoots, uses his whip, and interacts with objects while moving through a sequence of highly varied stages. Objectives include reaching the exit, defeating bosses, protecting characters, and completing special challenge sections.
Each level introduces different mechanics, including swimming, flying, climbing, timed movement, and unusual transportation segments. Progression is linear rather than equipment-based: success comes from learning each stage's hazards, finding a safe route, and adapting to its special rules.
Plan your run
Learn the special rule of each stage before rushing forward. Preserve health by using the whip against nearby threats and the blaster against enemies that are unsafe to approach. Check platforms and side paths for useful items, but do not assume that every unusual object is harmless.
Bosses and set pieces often reward patience more than constant attacking. Watch movement patterns, identify safe pauses, and use the weapon that keeps Jim out of danger. In vehicle or timed sections, prioritize the route and timing requirements over combat.

Earthworm Jim 2 is a surreal action-platform game developed by Shiny Entertainment and released for DOS in 1996. It follows Jim, an earthworm in a powerful robotic suit, as he tries to rescue Princess What's-Her-Name from a collection of bizarre villains. The game combines traditional side-scrolling platforming with shooting, whip attacks, puzzle-like tasks, and unusual vehicle or transformation sequences. Its cartoon presentation, eccentric humor, and imaginative stage designs distinguish it from more conventional platform games. Reception generally praised its animation, soundtrack, variety, and comic personality, although some sequences were considered less consistent than the main platforming stages.
