How it plays
The game uses an isometric perspective for exploring settlements, ruins, caves, and wilderness. The main objective is to recover a water-chip and later investigate a growing mutant threat, while optional quests allow different approaches and outcomes.
Combat is turn-based. Action points govern movement, attacks, equipment use, and other actions. Outside combat, the player creates a character with the SPECIAL system, develops skills, gathers equipment, speaks with non-player characters, and can recruit companions. Reputation, dialogue choices, and quest decisions influence available solutions and parts of the ending.
Plan your run
Build a balanced character rather than specializing in too many skills. Speech, one combat skill, and a practical utility skill such as Lockpick or Science provide useful options.
Manage action points carefully during combat, use cover and distance when possible, and save before major conversations or unexplored locations. Explore optional areas, recruit suitable companions, and pay attention to time-sensitive objectives.
Meet the cast

Before you begin
Save before entering unfamiliar areas or starting important conversations.

Keep spare ammunition, healing supplies, and a reliable weapon for later encounters.
Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game is a post-apocalyptic computer role-playing game developed and published by Interplay Productions for DOS. Set in a devastated future shaped by nuclear war, it follows a Vault Dweller sent beyond an underground shelter to find a replacement water-chip. Exploration, dialogue, character building, and tactical combat are equally important. Its isometric presentation, dark humor, moral choices, and flexible quest solutions distinguished it from many earlier computer RPGs. The game was widely praised for its writing, atmosphere, and open-ended design, and it became the foundation of the long-running Fallout series.
