Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Field General presents an American football game from a field-based perspective. The objective is to score by moving the ball downfield, while defensive play aims to stop drives and regain possession.
The game is organized around offensive and defensive plays. Players choose a play, carry out the resulting action, and manage the changing field position, downs, and possession. Progress depends on successful drives and scoring rather than on character development or persistent campaign statistics.
Plan your run
Choose plays according to the down, distance, and field position instead of repeating the same call. Mix conservative running or short-yardage options with passes when the situation requires more distance.
On defense, pay attention to the likely offensive play and protect the space needed for a first down. Track possession and field position carefully, since an unsuccessful drive can give the opponent a favorable starting point.
Field General is a 1991 American football simulation published by GameTek for DOS. The game focuses on managing and playing a football contest through offensive and defensive decisions rather than presenting an arcade-style interpretation of the sport. Players select plays, control action on the field, and attempt to advance the ball while stopping the opposing offense. Its design belongs to the early home-computer sports-simulation tradition, where strategy and execution are balanced within a relatively compact interface. Surviving references give Field General a modest historical profile, and it is chiefly of interest to players studying early DOS football games and GameTek's sports catalog.
