Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Fields of Glory presents battles from an overhead battlefield perspective. The objective is to defeat the opposing army by using formations, terrain, morale, and tactical positioning effectively.
Players organize and move units, issue attacks, and respond to enemy formations in turn-based scenarios. Battles are structured around historical engagements and army compositions, with progression determined by scenario completion rather than a conventional character or technology system.
Different troop types have different battlefield roles, so deployment and timing are central to play. The game is primarily a single-player tactical experience; additional modes are not documented here.
Plan your run
Study the battlefield before moving. Keep formations organized, use terrain to protect vulnerable units, and avoid committing troops piecemeal.
Preserve morale by avoiding unnecessary losses and support attacks with nearby units. Concentrate force against an exposed section of the enemy line instead of spreading attacks across the whole field.
Fields of Glory is a historical turn-based tactical wargame developed by Impressions Games and published by U.S. Gold for DOS in 1993. It recreates medieval battles between English and French forces, drawing on the conflicts of the Hundred Years' War. Players deploy formations, manage battlefield positions, and issue orders across terrain-based battlefields rather than directly controlling individual soldiers. The game emphasizes preparation, command decisions, and the interaction between different troop types. Its presentation is functional and information-focused, reflecting the design of contemporary computer wargames. Fields of Glory received attention among strategy players for offering a detailed medieval battle simulation, although its rules and interface can be demanding for newcomers.
