Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views the mountain from a side-on perspective and attempts to reach the summit by selecting and climbing routes. Progress depends on choosing viable handholds, managing movement, and responding to changing hazards rather than simply moving toward the top.
Routes differ in difficulty and risk. The player must balance progress against fatigue and the possibility of a fall, using available climbing equipment and careful positioning to continue the ascent. The central challenge is completing the climb while preserving enough control and resources for the harder sections.
Plan your run
Study the route before committing to a difficult section. Favor stable handholds and manageable movement over rapid progress.
Keep fatigue and equipment limits in mind. A short-term gain is not worthwhile if it leaves the climber unable to handle the next exposed or technically demanding section.
Before you begin
Plan each move before leaving a secure position.
Treat difficult sections as resource-management problems, not races.
Final Assault is a mountain-climbing simulation developed by Dynamix and published by Sierra On-Line for DOS. The game places the player on dangerous alpine routes where careful planning, equipment management, and controlled movement are more important than speed. Its play style combines route selection with direct climbing decisions, reflecting the risks of exposure, weather, fatigue, and falls. Rather than presenting a conventional arcade challenge, it models an expedition as a sequence of deliberate choices. Contemporary reception recognized its unusual subject and technical ambition, although its demanding controls and specialized simulation focus made it less immediately accessible than mainstream action games.
