How it plays
Battles use a top-down grid and proceed in alternating player and enemy phases. Players move units, attack, use items, visit villages, recruit characters, and seize designated objectives while protecting important units.
Maps form a campaign of chapters with occasional route splits and gaiden chapters. Units gain experience and can promote with special items. Weapon durability, the weapon triangle, terrain, support bonuses, and permanent death all shape tactical decisions.
Plan your run
Protect fragile units until enemy ranges are clear, and use terrain to improve survivability. Check weapon effectiveness before committing to an attack, especially against armored or mounted enemies.
Recruit characters by consulting chapter-specific requirements, often involving Roy or another particular unit. Preserve valuable weapons, manage durability before difficult maps, and prioritize villages and gaiden objectives when their conditions are known.

Before you begin
Keep multiple save files before major chapter decisions and route splits.

Train a balanced roster because some chapters restrict or separate your forces.
Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade is a turn-based tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It follows Roy, a young noble who leads the Lycian League against the invading forces of Bern while uncovering the history of the legendary Binding Blade. Players command a small army across grid-based maps, balancing movement, weapon matchups, character survival, and limited resources. The game is notable for its permanent-death system, branching story routes, and detailed support conversations. Released in Japan in 2002, it was well regarded for its strategic depth and became the first Fire Emblem game to feature Roy, a character later known internationally through Super Smash Bros.
