How it plays

How does Flashback play?

The game uses a side-view perspective with screen-by-screen areas connected into larger stages. Conrad must explore hostile locations, recover information, solve environmental problems, and reach the exit of each level while conserving limited resources.

Players run, jump, climb, crouch, draw a pistol, and interact with objects. Some actions require precise positioning and timing. Progression is linear within the story, with new locations, discoveries, and set-piece encounters replacing conventional character statistics or equipment upgrades.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Flashback?

Observe enemy patterns before moving into open spaces, and use cover whenever it is available. Keep the pistol ready, but avoid wasting shots on enemies that can be bypassed.

Search each area carefully for objects and clues. Precise positioning is important for jumps, ledges, elevators, and interactions, so retrying a section slowly is often more effective than rushing.
