Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player pilots a spacecraft through space-combat stages, destroys enemy formations, and avoids incoming projectiles and collisions. The view and stage behavior follow arcade shoot 'em up conventions, with the action focused on managing position and fire while the screen fills with threats.
Progression is organized around successive combat areas and encounters. Players improve their chances by learning enemy movement patterns, collecting or using available power-ups when documented by the game, and preserving lives for later sections. The primary objective is to survive each stage and advance toward the lost Orbs.
Plan your run
Keep the ship moving continuously, but use controlled movements rather than crossing the entire screen without a plan. Learn the timing of enemy entries and prioritize threats that fire directly at the player.
Use the safest firing position available and avoid chasing targets into dense projectile patterns. Preserve lives for later stages, where memorized enemy routes are more valuable than aggressive risk-taking.
Before you begin
Watch enemy entry patterns before committing to a route.
Prioritize enemies that can attack from the sides or behind.
Avoid unnecessary movement when the projectile pattern is already predictable.
Galactix II: The Search for the Lost Orbs is a DOS science-fiction shoot 'em up developed by Cygnus Software. It places the player in a spacecraft defending against waves of hostile ships while searching for the lost Orbs. The game follows the fixed-screen and scrolling arcade traditions of early computer shooters, emphasizing movement, rapid firing, enemy recognition, and survival. Its presentation is built around colorful space combat rather than a complex narrative or character system. As a shareware-era DOS title, it is chiefly remembered within the period's PC arcade and freeware communities, with interest centered on its accessible action and sequel status rather than major commercial impact.
