Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Gender Wars uses a top-down real-time strategy perspective. The main objective is to complete scenario goals, usually by establishing an effective base, producing forces, and defeating or outlasting the opposing side.
Players manage construction, resource collection, unit production, movement, and combat in real time. Campaign scenarios provide structured objectives and increasing opposition, while the strategic challenge comes from balancing expansion, defense, and attacks against the enemy.
Plan your run
Secure the starting area before committing to an attack. Expand resource production steadily, protect important structures, and keep enough units near the base to respond to enemy pressure.
Scout before moving the main force and avoid separating units without a clear purpose. In longer scenarios, replace losses and maintain production rather than relying on a single early assault.
Gender Wars is a science-fiction real-time strategy game developed and published by 7th Level for DOS in 1996. Its premise imagines a future conflict divided along gender lines, with opposing societies competing for control through military campaigns and resource management. The game follows the established real-time strategy model: players build a base, gather resources, create units, and attack enemy positions while responding to events on the map. Its unusual social premise attracted attention, although contemporary reception was mixed and the game remained a niche DOS strategy title rather than a major genre landmark.
