How it plays

How does Gene Wars play?

The game uses an isometric, real-time view of alien environments. Each mission gives objectives such as gathering resources, reaching locations, protecting units, or overcoming hostile creatures.

Players select creatures, move them through the terrain, assign tasks, and manage breeding. Combining parent creatures passes traits to offspring, allowing the population to develop abilities better suited to later missions. Progression comes from completing scenarios and expanding the available genetic possibilities rather than from a conventional technology tree.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Gene Wars?

Study the mission objective before breeding. Create creatures whose inherited abilities directly support the current task instead of relying on a single general-purpose animal.

Keep breeding groups and working units organized, and protect useful creatures from unnecessary combat. Experiment with different combinations between missions so that mobility, carrying capacity, and offensive traits are available when required.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Breed for the abilities required by the objective; a strong combat creature is not always the best transport or exploration unit.
