How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective for exploration and a first-person battle view. Players travel between towns, caves, ruins, and the world map, speaking with characters, finding equipment, and solving Psynergy-based environmental puzzles.
Combat is turn-based. Characters can attack, defend, cast Psynergy, summon powerful elemental forces, use items, or call on Djinn. Djinn can be assigned to characters to change their classes and statistics, or used independently in battle. Story events and new Djinn gradually expand the party's abilities and access to previously unreachable areas.
Plan your run
Explore every dungeon thoroughly, because Djinn, hidden items, and optional paths often reward careful inspection. Assign Djinn regularly rather than leaving them unused; class changes can improve statistics and provide useful Psynergy.
Keep a balanced elemental team and preserve healing options before major battles. Use defensive buffs, debuffs, and Djinn effects when available, and remember that a Djinni placed on standby can contribute to a later summon.

Golden Sun is a fantasy role-playing game developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance. It follows Isaac and his companions, adepts who can use Psynergy, as they pursue a group of elementalists attempting to restore the dangerous Elemental Lighthouses. Exploration combines traditional top-down adventure movement with environmental puzzles and collectible Djinn, while battles use turn-based commands, equipment, and elemental abilities. The game is divided into towns, wilderness routes, dungeons, and major set pieces, creating a substantial journey for a handheld RPG. It was widely praised for its detailed graphics, music, puzzle design, and ambitious presentation, and became one of the Game Boy Advance's best-regarded role-playing games.
