How it plays
The game uses a top-down, angled view of Liberty City. Players explore districts on foot or in vehicles, accept missions, fight enemies, evade police, and travel between safehouses and other locations.
Missions include driving, gunfights, thefts, escapes, and scripted touch-screen interactions. Huang can buy and sell drugs, collect weapons and armor, use taxis, and improve his resources through money earned from missions and side activities. The single-player campaign is divided into story missions, with optional activities and collectible items spread across the city.
Plan your run
Use the map and safehouses to plan routes before starting missions. Keep armor and reliable weapons available, especially before missions that trigger long chases or several combat encounters.
Drug dealing can provide useful extra money, but watch for police attention and market changes. During driving missions, use alleys and bridges to break pursuit lines, and use the touch screen carefully for vehicle-based tasks rather than rushing the input.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Rockstar Leeds in collaboration with Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games for Nintendo DS. It follows Huang Lee, a young member of Liberty City's wealthy Lee family, after a personal tragedy draws him into a struggle involving the Triads, corrupt officials, and rival criminal factions. The game combines top-down driving and shooting with touch-screen activities, business management, and mission-based storytelling. Its sharp writing, compact structure, bold visual style, and inventive use of the DS hardware received strong critical praise. Reviewers generally regarded it as one of the system's most technically impressive and ambitious third-party games.
