Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Play takes place from an overhead strategic perspective on a regional map. The main objective is to expand your kingdom, secure resources, build settlements, and defeat rival forces while completing the requirements of the selected scenario.
Turns are used to move armies, explore, recruit units, manage towns, and make strategic decisions. Progress depends on improving your economy and military capacity, choosing useful routes through the map, and preparing forces before major battles. The game emphasizes long-term planning more than reflexes.
Plan your run
Expand cautiously rather than spreading armies across too many fronts. Secure nearby resources and defensible positions before committing to distant expeditions.
Develop the economy that supports recruitment and movement, scout unknown territory, and keep a reserve force near important settlements. Avoid costly battles until your army and supply position are clearly stronger.
Before you begin
Explore methodically, because map knowledge makes later expansion safer.
Protect productive settlements and avoid leaving key routes undefended.
Plan several turns ahead when moving armies or preparing an attack.
Hammer of the Gods is a 1994 DOS turn-based strategy game developed by New World Computing and set in a world inspired by Norse mythology. The player leads a Viking kingdom, explores a large strategic map, develops settlements, raises armies, and competes for control of territory and resources. Its play style combines kingdom management, exploration, tactical preparation, and diplomacy with a mythological theme. The game belongs to the early wave of computer 4X-style strategy titles rather than an action-oriented Viking game. It received attention for its distinctive setting and broad strategic scope, although its interface and learning curve can feel dated to modern players.
