Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a first-person space view for navigation and combat, with separate interfaces for planetary travel and crew management. The main objective is to accept missions, investigate locations, fight hostile ships or personnel, and improve the crew and vessel.
Progression comes from completing assignments, earning money or equipment, recruiting specialists, and upgrading ship capabilities. Encounters are structured around travel between destinations, tactical battles, and exploration of facilities or planets.
Plan your run
Keep the crew balanced instead of specializing every member in one role. Mission preparation matters because damaged equipment and depleted resources can make later objectives much harder.
Explore available contracts carefully, upgrade the ship when finances allow, and avoid unnecessary battles while learning the interface. Save before major journeys or missions so that a poor tactical result does not erase substantial progress.
Before you begin
Read mission information carefully before committing to a destination.
Maintain ship equipment and crew capability between assignments.
Save frequently before combat and planetary operations.
Hard Nova is a science-fiction role-playing game developed by Malibu Interactive and published by Electronic Arts for DOS in 1990. It combines ship-to-ship combat, planetary travel, crew management, trading, and mission-driven exploration. The player commands a spacecraft and builds a team while investigating threats across a large interstellar setting. Play alternates between navigation, tactical encounters, and ground operations rather than following a purely arcade structure. Contemporary and later reception has been mixed: the game is remembered for its ambitious scope and detailed systems, but its interface, pacing, and complexity can make it difficult to approach.
